This series began when my mother, Photographer Kimberly Starbuck, nominated me for a Black and White Photo Challenge:
Shoot and post one black and white photo each day for five days and nominate another photographer to the challenge. I took this on as a philosophical challenge- what does it mean to live in a Black and White World, as is reflected through so many Human minds, rippling through the Collective Consciousness in our human condition today? This Black and White way of looking at the world is why we have Wars, Greed, Hunger, Anger, Fear, Pain, and Sadness. It is why people just can’t seem to treat each other with kindness, why people feel misery and behave like victims, why people feel they need to be brutes to protect themselves against one another. On the flip side, it’s why people expect to see a “Happy Ever After” ending in life, why people think “falling in love” will solve all their problems, and why people think that if they can just “have a baby” they will be finally be happy. This translates into moments of ecstacy followed by let down feelings of never achieving expectations, always failing at happiness, disappointment, and depression. Life on Earth is challenging, but we cannot look at our lives with such a polarized point of view if we wish to achieve some form of sustainable happiness.
As a Rainbow Warrior of Consciousness walking through this Black and White World the Humans on Earth have created, I stop and stare- Facing, Acknowledging, Accepting, Addressing, Forgiving, and Deleting all that I DO NOT ACCEPT in our Earthbound World. I dare say, I will be taking this challenge on for more than just 5 days.

OCTOBER 21st: Sometimes, I don’t know what to say to people. The stuff that comes out of our mouths is appalling- I can only respond with the hard, conscious stare of a witness to a crime.

OCTOBER 21st: Between my smiles and sunshine- when I am accepting that life as a Human on Earth often is a much lower quality than life as a cat, or a bird, or a tree, or even as a rock- I watch the clouds tumble by…

OCTOBER 30th: I asked one of the many young Super-Troupers carrying machine guns if they were anticipating the Joker showing up in Grand Central this morning.
“No, but when we make a big display of men armed for full-on warfare, it lets the public feel there may be some undefined threat lurking around. We want you to know that we are working hard to keep you safe,” he said with a smile. Just think of all those gun toting security jobs that are at stake. If there really were no threat, well… there are worse ways to create job security for and by the military.
